Who are you

Original Article by Robert W. Lucky (IEEE Fellow)

We open a site and get redirected to the registration page. Without even thinking for a second we close the site even though the registration is free. Why? Coz we don’t want to disclose our identity. But what are we then…. A nobody. What are we afraid of – losing our identity? But what is your identity? Who are you? No one is going to ask if you exist or not.

In this era, whatever we do on the internet, wherever we log in or post something leaves a trail of our existence. Maybe today you sign up for Facebook, Flickr, YouTube or Picasa. There you go. This is your trial. By signing up you are telling the world who you are, what you are and trying to make a place for yourself.

The only bad thing about the internet is that it does not forget. Our work on the internet is like creating a resume of ourselves. An employer would prefer to Google u rather than accept your crisp self made resume. There once used to be resumes of a person. But in the technical world we are our resumes. It is our identity that makes us known among people.

Think about it. Next time you go online ask this question to yourself – “Who are you?”

The sound of MUSIC

You wake up in the morning and plan to go for a jog. You never forget to take i-pod along. Later that day u drive down to the mall and while driving you tune in to your favorite radio frequency. Once in the mall, you realize that the environment is filled with melodious tunes from Mozart or Beethoven which make you feel like dancing. Everywhere you go, you have music with you.

Music is life. Everyone is hooked on to it, trying to grab each and every opportunity just to get hold of that one new album by The Fray, Linkin Park, Coldplay, Pink Floyd or Jagjit Singh. As a student I spend most of the time of my life listening to music and trying to free my minds from the tremendous amount of stress.

But what is music? Is it just a cluster of some playing instruments superimposed on which is some ones sweet voice. No I don’t think so. Music is like something which comes from inside of the composer. It is a sound that rings in our ear. Something so strong that even a second of it can grab hold of our ears. The synchronized beat of those drums make our heart skip a beat, it makes our foot tap the floor, it swerves our mind to some place where we have never been but still so prominent as though we are there. Each melody that emanates from your headphone touches your heart, brings a tear to your eyes or makes you feel more energetic maybe sometimes makes you feel at the top of the world.

It is music that changes our way of living, our direction of thinking and of course our mood. I cannot imagine a life without music.

I guess life can be summed up by these three words…..

LIVE… LOVE… LISTEN…
